Baby Damballah represents a modern depiction of one of the most important gods in Haitian mythology: Damballah, the sky god. This reinterpretation suggests that the old gods have not disappeared; rather, they call upon us to engage with them and seek understanding. Only through these gods may we truly grasp deeper truths.

The snake, symbolizing Damballah, embodies the endless renewal of shedding one’s skin and embracing change—a wisdom echoed by Nietzsche, who reminds us that “the snake that cannot shed its skin must perish.”
